My
name is Barry Drennan and I have been married to Joy, a teacher and
farmer’s daughter, for 29 years. We have two wonderful children, Ross
23, a property valuer, and Kate 21, a professional photographer. I have
spent the majority of my working life as a music teacher, along with
other interests such as audio/video recording and the production of
music theatre shows. For ten years Joy and I ran a clothing design and
manufacturing business in which all our seamstresses were deaf and
mute. When my daughter graduated in design and photography, I decided
to swap music for my hobby, and we started a photography business
together.

I feel blessed to have the
opportunity to stand up for the family and moral values in our society.
I believe that the family unit is the backbone of the country and that
we need to have good people in parliament to protect these values. It
is not difficult to see how our core values are constantly being eroded
in the name of political expediency and correctness. Australia is
renowned as being a great place to raise a family – let’s keep it that
way!
Some of the issues which are of particular concern to me and which need to be addressed are:
1. The difficulty for young people to afford their first home due to inflated house prices.
2. The welfare and security of the elderly in our community, and the
inability of pensioners to manage on the government pension.
3. The education policies. As a teacher I was perturbed by the
constant revision of the curriculum and the OBE fiasco, which made the
lives of teachers extremely stressful.
