My
name is Paul Barrett, I am a 35 year old businessman, born and bred in
Western Australia. I own a drafting company, located in the Joondalup
CBD. I am married, have a growing family, and I am actively involved in
community events.
I am an advocate for
Small Business – and I believe that killing the Australian Economy with
a Super Profits Tax will directly affect Small Business. As it stands,
many politicians are clearly out of touch with small business owners;
every time an announcement is made within the Rudd/Gillard government
regarding the resources industry, the construction industry is directly
affected, and this has a direct adverse effect on small business, and
hence on families!

I believe that the public needs to be
educated on the effects of imposing a Super Profits Tax, and I believe
that Australia would be better positioned in light of the Global
Economy if we had a net-income tax rather than a profit based tax.
I want to SAVE the ENVIRONMENT and
create jobs at the same time. Build more desalination plants, powered
by ocean wave technology; power industry with windspires and ensure new
housing developments have 20% parkland or nature reserves. Development
opportunities need to be designed to go hand in hand with environmental
protection schemes.
SMALL BUSINESS need additional tax breaks, incentives to employ long term unemployed, and low interest business loans.
Australia’s BANKS need to be held
accountable – how better to do so and create more jobs within the
finance and construction industries than to once again create a
PEOPLE’S BANK.

Australia’s ECONOMY needs to be
protected and encouraged to GROW – how better to do so than to build
and maintain Australian OWNED Assets?
HEALTH REFORM – make treatment more accessible and reduce waiting lists by encouraging more micro hospitals.
Superannuation – I believe we should
adopt Singapore’s model whereby personalised savings can be used to
help fund house purchases, thus making home ownership more affordable.
